Plasma Transfer Arc (PTA) Welding

What is plasma PTA?

Plasma PTA is a type of welding process. There are many different ways to weld, and they all have pros and cons. Welding is the process whereby metal is joined together by heating them to the point of melting. Plasma PTA is characterised by a high-density plasma arc, this is created by the oxidation of argon gas. It can be automated once the parameters are set, giving a consistent and uniform finish across the products.

What are the benefits of plasma PTA?

There are many benefits to choosing plasma PTA welding over some of the other available welding techniques. One of the main benefits is that it can be automated, this allows for a high degree of consistency as well as making a cost-effective solution. It is a very precise method, both the amount of metal powder, and the parameters of the weld can be carefully controlled. This makes it a very efficient system as it reduces the quantity of waste. The finish from a plasma PTA weld is very smooth, this reduces the amount of post-weld machining that is required, which again reduces the cost, as well as reducing the downtime of the items. Having items out of action for long periods can be detrimental to businesses, and any process which shortens this time period is of benefit. Plasma PTA produces very tough alloys which are excellent where the risk of corrosion is high. The precision of the application process allows one to alter the thickness of the deposit, by incremental degrees.
